DBS DOES IT BIG ON SOUTH BEACH WITH HIP HOP STAR T-PAIN
On Friday, September 28th, Miami’s Drummer Boy Sound teamed up with South Beach’s hottest night club, Sobe Live, to deliver a top notch Electro-Voice, Dynacord, Midas and Klark Teknik sound reinforcement package for one of the biggest hip hop events of year. 2007 MTV Woodie Awards nominee T-Pain took center stage on the evening and rocked the club on for over an hour, joined by special guest and Gnarls Barkley star Cee-Lo. BET DJ of the year, Miami-based DJ Khaled, kept the crowd going before and after T-Pain’s show.
“Sobe Live has an awesome Dynacord Alpha club system installed, so mains were more than covered,” says Cummings. “To complete the picture, we brought in a range of EV monitors, mics and fills, along with our Midas and KT FOH and monitor mix gear, and got great results.
“I love the constant reliability and dependability these systems provide, and how well they work together,” Cummings adds. “At FOH we used Midas Venice 320 mixing console, which, though small and easy to use, has great-sounding mic preamps, of the same quality you find on the much larger Midas desks. We tweaked the mixes with two Klark Teknik DN370 EQs—the industry standard sound. Two lightweight EV CP3000S power amps were used to power four EV QRx112 stage monitors, which have incredible clarity and coverage; two EV QRx112 boxes were flown in the VIP section, and two EV ZX5-90 boxes were used in the DJ booth. All the mic’s were EV: N/D967 wired for backing vocals and N/D967 wireless on an EV RE-1 system for the lead vocal. Every step of the signal chain was impeccable; I never worry about doing a show for any major artist when I bring out these brands, because every element is so strong.”
